I am working on my 3rd edition of my zine. Writing postcards to people. Experiencing major shifts and changes in life. Listening to bird songs. Watching Mad Men. Being astonished by love.

Have you let yourself sit quietly today? Sinking into yourself? It’s ok if you cry a bit while doing this. I did. We’re all out here feeling a lot. Turn on your heart. Crank it.

In NYC there is a Celebration of the Life of Joan Didion today. (1934 – 2021)

Speakers will include Hilton Als, Jerry Brown, Griffin Dunne, Anthony Kennedy, Susanna Moore, Vanessa Redgrave, Patti Smith, Jia Tolentino, and Calvin Trillin. No reservations are needed to attend, but your RSVP is encouraged.

This celebration will also be available to livestream. The video will appear on this page at 5 pm on September 21, and will also be streamed on the Cathedral's Facebook page and YouTube channel.

I wish I were there. I texted my friend Ron to go for me. If he wasn’t teaching maybe I could have convinced him to go and take some beautiful flowers for me. I would have asked him to put them on the stone steps and say little whispers/little spells for me. I bet he would have done it. It seems like this is a beautiful day to be in celebration. Right as the seasons change. Right when we all need comfort. Oh, Joan…you are the queen to me.
